Geographic Kamchatka

    Geographical location of Kamchatka region Far North-East of Russia. Area 472,3 thousand km2. Includes Kamchatka peninsula and a part of adjoining continent, Komandorsky islands, Karaginsky island. Northern point - latitude 65` North (close to the Polar Circle) (latitude of Arkhangelsk). Southern point latitude 50`57` North-West (Lopatka Cape) (latitude of Kiev). The territory of Kamchatka includes Koryaksky Automous Region. Its area is 305,5 thousand km2. England, Portugal, Belgium and Luxemburg together can be placed on the territory of Kamchatka. The coasts of Kamchatka are washed by cold the sea of Okhotsk, Bering Sea and by the Pacific Ocean. Deep Kurilo-Kamchatsky gutter stretches along the east coastline. The structure of the landscape, volcanism, seismology, climate, flora and fauna of the peninsula depend on the trough. The landscape is mostly mountainous. Koryakskoye Plateau is situated in the northern part of it, almost parallel to each other the two mountain ranges Middle and Eastern extend along the whole peninsula. 28 from 29 active volcanoes are located in the eastern part of the peninsula. Western coast has a straight boarder line, flat landscape, eastern one is cut with half-peninsulas and bays, among witch there is one of the most beautiful inlets Avachinskaya lnlet.
