Hiking trip on Kamchatka

Tour №16.Combined. Volcanoes and Hot Springs of the Natural Park “Nalychevo”

The best time to realize this hiking trip is June 15 till September 15.



The trip is meant for the tourists with average physical training (about 6 hours a day with 10-15 kg backpack).

The hike takes place in the valley surrounded by mountain ridges and grand volcanoes. During the tour you’ll ascend Avacha (2741 m), Dzenzur (2155 m) and Kupol (1674 m) volcanoes. You’ll visit the biggest agglomeration of hot springs of Kamchatka in the Nalychevo valley, you’ll see natural narzans. Here you may see salmon mition in the rivers and brown bears catching fish. When flying by helicopter you’ll observe volcanoes and wild nature of Kamchatka.

1st day. Arrival at the airport. Transfer to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Accommodation at the hotel. Checking of the tourist outfit.
2nd day.Flying by helicopter to the Nalychevo valley, to the foot of Dzenzur volcano, to the Talovsky hot springs. During the fly you’ll observe Avacha and Koryaksky volcanoes. Time of the flight is 40 min. Bathing in the hot springs. Spending the night in tents.
3rd day. Ascent to the active volcano of Dzenzur (2155 m). The ascent takes place in the narrow picturesque cleft of the Zhelob stream, flowing out of the caldera of Dzenzur volcano, and on the edge of the coulee up to the fumarol site, situated at the wall of the caldera side.
4th day. Rest at the hot springs. An excursion along the Solyony (Salty) stream, on either sides of which outlets of the hot thermal springs and hot mud are found.
5th day. Trek to the hot springs of the central base of the natural park Nalychevo, visiting the Teplorechensky (Warm River) hot springs (12 km). Accommodation and spending the night in houses.
6th day. Depending on the wish and how the group feels, it’s possible to ascend to the extinct volcano of Kupol or to visit mountain lake Vershinskoye (Top), or to go on the excursion to the Zheltorechensky (Yellow River) springs.
7th day.The rest day. Bathing in natural hot springs, which have effective healing power for many diseases. Seeing boiling pots, mud-baths. Visiting the museum “The Park of Nalychevo”
8th day. Trek to the cold mineral springs – Aag narzans (12 km). From the springs site Vershinsky and Kupol volcanoes are seen. Spending the night in tents.
9th day. Trek across the valley of the Shumnaya (Noisy) river and at the foots of Aag, Arik, and Koryaksky volcanoes (22 km). The hike goes on the alpine meadows and volcanic scoria. During the hike splendid views to the volcanoes are opened. Spending the night in tents.
10th day. Trek at the foot and spurs of Koryaksky volcano, crossing the pass (1268 m) to the Avacha shelter (18 km). The hike takes place on the volcanic slag and lavas. During the hike splendid views to the volcanoes are opened. Spending the night in houses.
11th day. Ascent to Avacha volcano (2749 m). Climbing up on the young cone of the volcano. From the edge of the volcano spectacular outlook is opened: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city, Elizovo town, the valley of the Avacha river and Avacha bay, Viluchinsky, Mutnovsky and Gorely volcanoes are seen to the south. The grand cone of koryakskyvolcano is to the west. To the north there’s a stunning view to the valley of the Nalychevo river and Zhupanovsky and Dzenzur volcanoes. The ascent takes 6-8 hours. In the evening you go to the recreation department by “off-road” car. Accommodation, rest, bathing in the pool with hot thermal water.
12th day. Visiting the fish market. Shopping. Souvenirs. Departure to the airport.

Every participant of the tour should have :
1) a rucksack or travel bag
2) a sleeping bag and a tourist rug
3) trekking boots or rubber boots
4) additional shoes to change
5) things for personal hygiene, bathing accessories
6) warm clothes (waterproof and windeblock jacket)

9) small lamp

11) sticks for climbing
