Trekking trip in Kamchatka

Tour N 14. Walking trip along the hot springs.

The best period for realization this trip is from the1st of June till the 30th of September.

Arrival dates for 2008: the 20st of June, the 23th of August,, the 09th of September.

The hike is meant for tourists with good physical training: approximately 6 hours a day with a backpack of 10-15 kg.

The trip takes place on the mountainous area. You'll get over three mountain passes, visit five different hot springs, including the Bolshe-Banny (Big Bath) hot springs, which are considered to be a small-scale Valley of Geysers. There'll be an opportunity to watch picturesque wild nature of Kamchatka: birds, brown bears, salmon motion in the rivers during the spawning period. Kamchatka trekking trip
1st day.Arrival at the airport. Transfer to the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (20kms), accommodation, rest. Examination of camping outfit.
2nd day.Driving to the Nachikinskoye lake (100kms). Hiking by a wood road through a birch forest up to the Yagodny (Berry) stream (12kms). This day you'll see picturesque volcano Vachkazhets (1566m), which is the highest point of the Bystrinsky ridge. Spending the night in the tents.
3rd day.Trekking trip to the Bolshe-Banny (Big Bath) thermal springs through the Taburetka (Stool) pass (16kms). Ascent to the pass takes about 2 hours. When the weather is fine, the magnificent view for Nachikinskoye lake and Sunduk (Chest) mountain is opened from the pass. Hike passes on the Alpine meadows. Descent from the pass to the Bolshe-Banny (Big Bath) hot springs is not difficult and takes about 2 hours. Bathing in hot springs and in a pool with thermal water. Spending the night in tents.
4th day.Rest day. Bathing. Seeing mud syphons, fumarole grounds. Ascending to Sunduk (Chest) mountain. The Bolshe-Banny (Big Bath) springs are represented by 24 groups on the thermal areas of about 1.5km. More than 550 boiling, seething, gushing forth, sometimes with geyser mode of thermal waters, and also mud boilers are found here. The walls of separate gryphones and sites around them are covered with geyserite. Thick geyserite plates, outcropping above the shore line of the Bannaya (Bath) river, testify to the former activity of these springs. Spending the night in tents.
5th day.Trekking trip to the Maly Banny (Small Bath) hot springs downwards along the valley of an old wood road (5km). Rest, bathing. The springs are on the right bank of the Maly Kluch (Small Spring) river. Hot water outlets with temperature up to 76oC are located on the small area (about 36m2), from which a warm stream springs. In the places of a thermal water outlets depositions of white salts (sulphates and geyserites) are formed on the pebble, and around the outlets - usual thermophilic algae are found. Spending the night in tents.
6th day. Crossing the Chop pass (900m) up to the mountain lake (10kms). Hiking takes place on the wood path among the picturesque snowfields with flowering alpine meadows. Spending the night in tents on the lakeside.
7th day. Hiking up to the Karymchinsky hot springs (8kms). Bathing. Rest. Excursion to the springs. The Karymchinsky hot springs are located in the narrow valley surrounded by high rugged ranges summit. They are multiple outlets of water with temperature up to 65oC, which are stretched along the river for 4kms, with very small effluent. The hot water outflows from low bank steep, forming beautiful fragile multi-coloured leakages, covered with thermofilic algaes. Spending the night in tents.
8th day. Trekking to the valley of the Karymshina river through the Tolsly Mys (Thick Cape) pass (1050m) (12km). Hiking passes on the alpine meadows and snowfields. There is beautiful view for Viluchinsky and Gorely volcanoes from the pass. Spending the night in tents on the plateau.
9th day. Trekking downwards along the valley of the Karymshina river on a path through the birch forest (16kms). Spending the night in tents.
10th day. Trekking up to the Karymshinsky hot springs (10kms). The springs are represented by several outlets of thermal waters on small warmed glade in the valley between two high mountain ranges. Bathing, rest. Driving to the recreation department by "off-road" car in the evening (23km). Accommodation, rest.
11th day. Guided city tour. Visit to the Museum of Local History. Visiting fish market. Purchase of souvenirs. A helicopter excursion to the valley of Geysers is available on request.
12th day. Transfer to the airport.


The cost of the given tour for 1 person is 880 EURO.
The cost of the helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers is paid separately if the weather is fine.

The price includes:

1. 3 time meal a day during the whole trip.
2. Service of guide (during the whole trip).
3. Service of cook (during the whole trip).
4. Service of translator (during the whole trip).
5. Base equipment (tents, etc.).
6. Transport service (bus, 4WD truck, etc.).
7. Residence at the hotel and the recreation department.
8. Visa support and registration.

The price doesn't include:

1. Purchasing of alcoholic drinks, cigarettes.
2. Purchasing of souvenirs.

Tourists themselves carry all the equipment and food.

If necessary it's possible to use service of porters and the satellite phone for an extra fee.

Each participant of the trip should have a backpack, a sleeping bag, a tourist rug, strong footwear, subjects of personal hygiene, and bathing accessories.
