Trekking trip to the Klyuchevskoy volcano group: Tolbachik, Bezymyany
Tour N 21. Trek to the Klyuchevskoy volcano group: Tolbachik, Bezymyany (Nameless).
The best period for the tour is from June 15 till August 31.
Arrival dates for 2008: June 12, July 22, August 18.
The tour is meant for tourists with average physical training: approximately 6 hours a day with a backpack of 10-15kg.
During the trekking trip you'll visit one of the most interesting places for tourists on Kamchatka. This trekking trip passes on a plateau at the altitude of about 1000m above the sea level, among the highest and active volcanoes of Kamchatka, on high-mountainous Alpine meadows and volcanic fields, which look like moon landscape. Moon- and Mars-research vehicles were tested here. You'll ascent to two volcanoes.
1st day. Arrival at the airport, transfer to the hotel (20kms). Accommodation, rest.
2nd day.Driving by "off-road" car to the area of the settlement Kozyrevsk (450kms). When the weather is nice, a wonderful picturesque view for the highest volcanoes of Kamchatka is opened from this place, and you'll see such grand volcanoes as Krestovsky (4057m), Ushkovsky (3903m), Klyuchevskoy (4750m), Kamen (4579m), Plosky Tolbachik (3082m) and Ostry Tolbachik (3672m). Spending the night in tents.
3rd day.Driving by "off-road" car to the former seismic station Leningradskaya. Seeing the northern group of the Tolbachik cones. The Tolbachik cones are a peculiar group of volcanic formations, which represent themselves small-scale volcanoes, their height is 100-200 m.
4th days.A small trekking trip to the Cones and to the Dead Forest, which was destroyed by scoria and ash eruptions in 1975.
5th day. Ascent to Plosky Tolbachik volcano (3082 m). The ascent is not difficult and takes 6-8 hours. In the caldera of the volcano there is a yellow lake, where sulfur is evolved. At the foot of the rugged walls of the caldera there are powerful fumaroles.
6th day.Trekking to the Tolud river. This river strikes you with its lack of life after the eruption of Tolbachik volcano in 1975.
7th day. Trekking across the Tolud pass (1291 m) up to the Tolbachinsky pass. Quite new view to Plosky and Ostry Tolbachik, Big Udina (2920 m) and Small Udina (1945), Ovalnaya Zimina (3080 m) is opened from the Tolud pass.
8th day.Trekking across the Tolbachinsky pass (1503 m) up to the famous mountain Polennitza (Pile), which is composed of separate basalt pillars (this object is protected by UNESCO). Trip takes place on the alpine meadows and old lava streams. During the trip you'll observe the New, Mars and Jupiter craters. These craters appeared at the result of the volcanic activities in 1945.
9th day. Trekking trip across the pass (1500 m) up to Bezymyany volcano.
10th day.Ascent to Bezymyany volcano (2880 m). This summit became very unusual by its relief after the catastrophic eruption in 1958. The new gigantic cone appeared inside the huge crater. Ascent takes 8 hours.
11th day.A reserve day. Rest after ascent. In case of bad weather it's used as spare day to ascent to the volcano. Spending the night in tents.
12th day.Trek on the alpine highland up to the canyon of the Sudyonaya (Icy cold) river. At the canyon rocks you may see flocks of wild snow sheep.
13th day. Trek to the Kopyto (Hoof) hill. Driving to the Kozyrevsk settlement by "off-road" car.
14th day. Driving back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city by "off-road" car. Accommodation at the recreation department in the resort area "Paratunka". Bathing in the pools with hot thermal water.
15th day. Transfer to the airport.
The cost of this tour for 1 person is 1200 EURO.
The extra pay for the accommodation in a single department is 100 EURO
The cost of the helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers and the caldera of volcano “Uzon” is about 430 EURO. The excursion is paid on the day of flight. As the flight is realized only if the weather is nice.
The price includes:
1. 3 time meal a day during the whole trip.
2. Service of guide (during the whole trip).
3. Service of cook (during the whole trip).
4. Service of translator (during the whole trip).
5. Base equipment (tents, etc.).
6. Transport service (bus, 4WD truck, etc.).
7. Residence at the hotel and the recreation department.
8. Visa support and registration.
The price doesn't include:
1. Purchase of alcoholic drinks, cigarettes.
2. Purchase of souvenirs.
Tourists themselves carry all the equipment and food. If necessary it's possible to use service of porters.
Each participant of the trekking trip should have a backpack, a sleeping bag, a tourist rug, strong footwear, subjects of personal hygiene, and bathing accessories.
